By using Self Speed you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the site.

What the service is

Self Speed is a free, browser-based speedometer that reads your device's GPS. It is provided as a convenience tool, at no cost, with no account and no warranty.

Accuracy — read this part

GPS speed readings depend entirely on your device's hardware and on satellite signal conditions at the time. Readings can be wrong, and are reliably poor indoors, inside vehicles, in tunnels, in built-up areas, under dense tree cover, and at walking pace.

The site makes no guarantee of accuracy. The accuracy figure shown on screen is your device's own estimate, not a certification.

Do not rely on it for

• Navigation at sea or in the air. It has no charts, no redundancy and no

collision avoidance, and it runs on a battery that will eventually die.

• Legal purposes. It is not a certified or calibrated measuring instrument

and carries no evidential weight in a speeding dispute.

• Safety-critical decisions of any kind.
• Compliance with speed limits. Obey your vehicle's own speedometer and the

posted signs.

Use while driving

Do not operate, read or interact with this site while driving. Set it running before you move off, or have a passenger handle it. You are responsible for complying with the law on device use in your jurisdiction.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Availability is not guaranteed and the service may change or be withdrawn at any time.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of this site is not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from use of, or inability to use, the service — including any loss arising from reliance on a speed, distance or position reading.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, where such limitation is not permitted by law.
